“Jewish Giant at Home with His Parents leads Hindman’s upcoming sale of Famous Photographs”

American entertainer Eddie Carmel was born with pituitary adenoma, which led to his gigantism. He was sometimes a carnival sideshow act, a film actor, a rock and roll singer, and a stand-up comedian. But he was not well known until Diane Arbus’s photo titled Jewish Giant, taken at Home with His Parents in the Bronx, N.Y. in 1970, a print of which sold at auction for $421,000 in 2007. A print of this photo from Arbus’s A Box of Ten Photographs is up for bid in the Photographs auction by Hindman. Another print from the box, A young Brooklyn family going for a Sunday outing, N.Y.C.,1966, is also available in the auction.
