Jul 18, 2023 12:00 EDTFreeman’s upcoming sale, featuring works from the 16th to early 20th centuries, will present over 80 lots of fine art by the likes of Carl Moll and Sebastiano Del Piombo. A 1926 oil painting by Carl Moll, an Austrian artist, leads the sale. Moll was an influential landscape artist of the 20th century. Born in Vienna, he also painted still lifes and interiors during his career. He frequently depicted scenic, Impressionist nature scenes from Vienna and its surroundings. In this painting, a view of the Zattere promenade along the Guidecca Canal, Venice is shown.
Another notable lot in the sale is an oil painting titled The Vision of Saint Anthony Abbot. According to the lot catalog, the available canvas is likely to have originated from the studio of Sebastiano Del Piombo (1485 – 1547). He was an Italian painter of the High Renaissance and early Mannerist periods. He experimented widely throughout his career, often dabbling in Classical and religious subjects. Bidders can also consider a black-and-white artwork by Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn. Titled The Raising of Lazarus: The Larger Plate, the work was rendered in 1632. Additional lots of interest include works by Hippolyte Camille Delpy, Giovanni Martellini, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
