The upcoming Fine Literature auction will feature two private collections and is presented by Bonhams. This sale offers the literary works of William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Paul Verlaine, Henry David Thoreau, and more. Featured works include In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway and a copy of Shakespeare’s Macbeth: A Tragedy. This copy was printed in 1673 for William Cademan and is the only known complete copy of that edition.
Of interest is a novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne entitled Fanshawe: A Tale, which was originally published anonymously. Hawthorne contributed to American dark romanticism with works such as The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables. Another highlighted lot is a collection of forty prints from Francisco Goya. These prints depict various bullfighting scenes and include an engraved portrait of the artist on the title page.
