Eldred’s Auction Gallery is currently offering its Fall Marine Sale. Available in this nautical-themed auction are maritime logbooks, marine implements, canes, rules, and more. Of interest in this auction is a scrimshaw whale’s tooth engraved by Edward Burdett. This tooth from the 1830s depicts a whaling scene, including the William Tell ship flying an American Flag. Also highlighted is an oil painting by Robert Salmon. This piece shows a John Gladstone & Company fleet and brig sailing on open waters. A whale tooth and baleen-banded unicorn pie crimper will also be included in the auction. This 19th century tool is shaped like a unicorn whose front legs are supported by a fluted wheel and a five-point star. This sale includes a journal from the whaling ship Rodman and a sailor-made cutlery box as well. Visit Invaluable to view the complete collection and to place a bid.
