Indian painter M.F. Husain’s lifelong interest in horses began in the early 1950s. Influenced by the terracotta horses he saw during a visit to China, Husain began painting the animal as a symbol of power and tradition. Husain once said, “My horses like lightning, cut across many horizons. Seldom their hooves are shown. They hop around the spaces… the cavalcade of my horses is multidimensional.” The upcoming Estate Fine Art & Antiques Online Only Auction, offered by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers, offers a horse painting by Husain. The watercolor on paper piece shows a galloping horse executed in a monochromatic palette. Another highlight of the sale is a still life painting by Jean Dufy, a French Art Deco painter. Dufy’s paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors and defined composition.
