Early Victorian Era Jewelry, GIA-certified Vintage Jadeite Necklace Highlight October Thriller Auction by Akiba Galleries

Queen Victoria ruled the United Kingdom from 1837 to 1901. The period in which she reigned is now called the Victorian era. It witnessed changes in industry, society, fashion, and, of course, jewelry. Early Victorian or Romantic Period jewelry refers broadly to the British jewelry produced during this time. An Early Victorian brooch (circa 1830s – 1840s) comprised of a 14-karat gold and sterling silver frame is leading the upcoming October Thriller Auction, presented by Akiba Galleries. The Victorian brooch features a floral vine decorated with beaded pearl inserts and garnished with diamonds. The diamonds weigh approximately 3.5 carats. Other highlights include a GIA-certified Chinese vintage necklace featuring 43 mottled green round jadeite beads in a graduated single strand connected by a 14-karat yellow gold clasp (mid-20th century), as well as a Mughal period (circa 18th century), hand-stranded necklace. The latter item features cultured baroque pearls, citrine, and diamonds, decorated on the reverse with polychrome enamel set with 22-karat gold from North India.

Apart from vintage jewelry, the auction will offer over 600 lots of fine art, vintage bags, furniture, and more. An oil painting depicting a laughing police officer wearing headgear, signed along the bottom left “Yue Minjun” and dated “2005” is another noteworthy lot. The painting is attributed to Yue Minjun (Chinese, b. 1962). Among vintage collectibles is an Hermès Kelly 25 handbag in soft black leather with gold-tone hardware. It was designed with a single handle attached to the frontal flap and three interior slip pockets. The bag features the Hermès hallmark.
