Dec 09, 2022 10:00 ESTIn the upcoming Coins, Stamps, Bank Notes & Sports Collectibles sale, presented by Doyle, a gold South Africa 1978 one ounce Krugerrands is particularly highlighted. The first modern bullion coin, the Krugerrand, was produced by the Rand Refinery and the South African Mint in 1967 in order to help in the sale of South African gold. With a size of 32.69 mm and thickness of 2.84 mm, the coin’s obverse shows a left-facing picture of Paul Kruger, who served as president of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. Above the portrait is an inscription that reads ‘Suid-Afrika,’ the name of South Africa in Afrikaans.
Another rare collectible coin available in the sale is a Canada 2014 $50 Gold Maple. The Canadian coin was issued in 2014. The coin has a detailed image of Queen Elizabeth II above the face value on one side, and the reverse side shows three overlapping sugar maple leafs.
