Doyle Offers Frank Myers Boggs Paintings, Staffordshire Pottery Figures, Sancai Glazed Pottery, and Other Rarities

A selection of fine artworks, decorative art, Asian antiques, and furniture will lead the upcoming Doyle at Home sale from Doyle. Among the top lots is a work by the Impressionist painter Frank Myers Boggs, called Nogent-le-Roi. This watercolor and pencil piece is titled and signed by Boggs. The artist was known for his Parisian street scenes and harbor views of Holland, England, and France, all depicted in distinctive styles. Bringing together elements from Tonalism and Impressionism, Boggs created a unique art form at the crossroads between American and European culture. In capturing the peaceful atmosphere that he admired, the artist used muted colors to depict wet streets and foggy skies. 

A selection of important porcelain is available in this auction, including a pair of Staffordshire pottery figures of Jupiter and Diana from the late 18th or early 19th century. Antique Victorian figures, animals, and buildings from Staffordshire are iconic representations of 19th-century British folk art, reflecting the fashions, attitudes, and customs of imperial Britain. Beyond English art, the catalog includes works from various Asian cultures. This includes a set of five Chinese Sancai glazed pottery items. Three-colored Sancai is a polychrome ceramic ware produced during the Tang dynasty, which ruled China from 618 to 907 CE. The offered set includes a temple model, two glazed thrones, and a pair of offering tables.
