Conrad Marca-Relli’s Subtle Collage Work Will Go Under The Hammer At Helmuth Stone Gallery Auction
Feb 05, 2023 13:00 ESTBorn in 1913, Conrad Marca-Relli pioneered Abstract Expressionism style. He is predominantly known for his large-scale collages, often crafted from pieces of canvas or linen painted with gestural brushstrokes. Following 1961, he started to employ materials such as synthetic plastics and metals in his work. Helmuth Stone Gallery’s New Year Fine Art & Antiques Auction will showcase Conrad Marca-Relli’s multi-media artwork. The available piece illustrates a combination of geometrical shapes. In the artwork, two multi-colored rectangles are surrounded by a black, square background.
Harry Bertoia’s bronze sculpture will be highlighted in the auction as well. Executed in 1969, the piece shows interconnected branches to create a sphere-like shape. Known for crafting furniture in the Modernist style, Harry Bertoia also dabbled in sculpture and screenprints. In the 1950s, he pursued art as a full-time career. At this time, Bertoia started creating sculptures out of wood and metal. These pieces were made to produce various sounds, such as chimes and gongs.
