Pierre Louis Omer Charlet was a French 19th-century painter who dabbled in allegorical themes of church and history. He became fond of historical themes while studying under Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and Antoine-Jean Gros at the esteemed Beaux-Arts of Paris. An accomplished painter, Charlet also took part in Salon de Paris, where he earned a medal. Pierre Charlet’s oil on canvas work, titled Enfance de Métastase, will be available in the upcoming Spectacular Estate Auction, offered by Clarke Auction. Charlet painted the piece in 1845.
Also available in the sale is a 1959 oil painting titled Te Deum by Mordecai Ardon. An Israeli painter and stained-glass artist, Ardon is celebrated for using the regional approach in Israeli painting. Ardon employed virtuosic brushwork and vivid forms to produce semi-abstract paintings such as Te Deum. He also utilized Jewish mysticism and local mythology in most of his paintings. In the available piece, the artist used card deck symbols against a musical background to create an abstract and thought-provoking composition.
