Circle Auction to Offer Works by Allan Mccollum, Oscar Deveza Zalameda, and More

The latest Contemporary & Modern: Art + Design sale from Circle Auction will offer over 340 lots of designer objects and fine art pieces by the likes of Allan McCollum, Oscar Zalameda, and more. A graphic suite of 24 by Allan McCollum from 2003 leads the sale. Titled The Recognizable Image Drawings, this work comprises 24 individually framed works, featuring each of the counties along the Kansas-Missouri border. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1944, Allan McCollum was a significant figure in American Conceptual Art.‘Surrogate Paintings’ a series that McCollum began in 1978 is considered one of his most famous works. The original Surrogate paintings involved painting the plaster sculptures to resemble them like a mat, a frame, and a black painting.

Another lot of interest in this sale is an oil painting by Oscar Deveza Zalameda titled Dos Paisanos. A Filipino Asian Modern & Contemporary painter, Zalameda was a favorite artist of former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos. He incorporated cubist elements into his paintings that often portrayed faceless women, Filipino subjects, and folk themes. The available oil on canvas piece is signed “Zalameda” at the bottom left. The lot comes with a 1991 Certificate of Authenticity with the image. An assortment of original works by Nick Dante Vaccaro and ceramics by John Balistreri and Jim Leedy are also available.
