This November, Mary Cassatt inaugurates the American Art Online auction offered by Christie’s. ‘Sara Holding a Cat’, which is available in this auction, is a detailed and colorful image of a little girl holding a cat in her hands. Known as an Impressionist, Cassatt dabbled in making portraits of women in everyday domestic settings, especially in the theme of mothers with their children. Alongside Cassatt, leading the auction are artists from the sphere of the American art industry like Ernest Leonard Blumenschein, Thomas Moran, and Robert Henri.
Milton Avery’s ‘Pink Sand, Pink Sky’ and ‘Blonde Boy’ are among the highlighted lots. Milton once described his work process as “I try to construct a picture in which shapes, spaces, colors, form a set of unique relationships, independent of any subject matter,”- much like Avery’s available works in the auction. Notable lots also include Ernest Leonard Blumenschein’s “The Old Story Teller”. The oil on canvas maintains vibrant colors, and long brush strokes depicting an old monk embracing a small boy.
