The upcoming sale to be presented by Brunk Auctions will include 58 lots of books. Some highlights of the sale include The History of Carolina by John Lawson in the 1714 and 1860 editions and William Bligh’s A Voyage to the South Sea from the early 1830s. Another standout lot is A General History of the Lives and Adventures of the Most Famous Highwaymen, Murderers, Street-Robbers, &c. by Captain Charles Johnson. Published in 1734, the book is bound in contemporary full tree calf with a red morocco spine.
Four volumes of life-size illustrations and descriptions of orchids, written by German-born orchidologist Frederick Sander, is another highlight of the auction. Named in honor of another renowned orchidologist, Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach, Reichenbachia was a collaboration between Sander and English landscape painter Henry George Moon. Two limited edition copies of The White House Years- Mandate for Change and Waging Peace, written and signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, are also available.
