Paul Revere started his career as a silversmith. He then became one of the members of the Sons of Liberty, a militant group established in 1765, and often created illustrations. Revere was popular for depicting the Boston Massacre that invited many controversies. This particular work will be offered during The Private Collection of William S. Reese Part One Auction, hosted by Christie’s. According to the lot essay, “Paul Revere’s inflammatory engraving ‘The Bloody Massacre’ was one of the most evocative propaganda pieces printed during the American Revolution.”
Another lot of interest is William Guy Wall’s watercolor painting from circa 1821. In the summer of 1820, William Guy Wall moved near the Hudson River. During this time, the landscape of Hudson served as an inspiration for his paintings and later yielded a series titled Hudson River Portfolio. The available lot shows views of the Hudson, extending from near Luzerne to the view of New York. Explore a range of categories and register to bid online on Christie’s.
