7th Cavalry Regiment Parade Guidons and Antique Assortment of Carved and Painted Collectibles Highlight Freeman’s Upcoming Sale
Sep 21, 2023 11:00 EDTFounded in 1866, the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the US Army participated in some of the most important battles of the American Frontier Wars. The upcoming Freeman’s auction will feature a mounted display of five 42-star 7th Cavalry Regiment parade guidons. Each one is printed on cotton and stenciled with a “7” and “A,” “B,” C,” ‘D,” and “E,” respectively. One guidon has the hand-written inscription, “Snell,” and the center flag has only 12 stripes. Also leading the listing is a Chippendale carved high chest of drawers. The walnut chest is designed in two parts with upper and lower sections. The upper one comprises an arch pediment with carved sunflower rosettes, three urns, and flame finials. It has a top center drawer over three short drawers above two short drawers and three long drawers below. The lower section consists of a long drawer over three short drawers, and cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet.
Another lot of interest is an assortment of nine carved and painted boxes and a busk. The antique collection includes candle boxes, bride’s box, firkins, and a chip-carved busk adorned with a heart, fans, and geometric motifs.
