The works available in the 21st Annual Gala & Glass Auction represent strong examples of Modern and contemporary glass sculpture. Hosted by the National Liberty Museum (NLM), the auction features works by Dale Chihuly, Javier Gomez, Ann Wolff, and Vladimir Prochazka, to name a few. Abstraccion Organica IV (2016) by Gomez is constructed with layers of carved, cerium-polished glass. Gomez is a lifetime artistic advisor of the MAVA Museum of Glass Art in Alcorcón, Spain. “Each piece has its own mystery, its own expressiveness, and when observing the viewer’s reaction to seeing my work, I find that each work has multiple readings and a thousand ways of looking at it,” Gomez says of his style.
New names like Jana Voldřichová also stand out in the auction. She often employs techniques such as painting, casting, and engraving to render messages through her sculptures, a style she learned under the tutelage of Professor V. Kopecký. The available cast glass sculpture by Voldřichová depicts a lady with a dove perched on her head. It is titled Odette (2019). With the proceeds from the auction, the NLM intends to support its civics education and outreach programs that teach young people leadership, empathy, personal responsibility, and respect for diversity.
