A Louis XV gilt bronze mounted, lacquered marble-top commode leads the way in Hindman’s upcoming Atlanta Collections auction. This 18th or 19th-century commode is unlike others of its time. Its black exterior is covered in a gilt bronze lacquered painting depicting Eastern themes such as tea gardens, tea drinkers wearing kimonos, and clouds. It has two drawers with gilt handles that serve as decorations along with the lacquered theme. The four legs have gilt decorations that run from the top to bottom. The commode has an elegant China red marble with ivory veins on top.
Nude, semi-nude, blonde, and brunette women were frequent subjects of Igor Pantuhoff’s paintings. He was a Russian-American artist known for his still life and portrait paintings. As a portrait artist, he painted famous faces like Princess Grace of Monaco, Mrs. James V. Forrestal, Laurance S. Rockefeller, and Anthony Drexel Duke. Pantuhoff’s mid-century modern painting titled Blonde Girl on Floral Ground is a notable fine art lot in the auction. Further offerings in the Atlanta Collections sale include furniture and decorative arts from the Estate of Elaine Levin, a distinguished arts philanthropist. She designed her Buckhead home to exhibit her curated collection from prominent Southern collections and estates. Find the listed items and more on Hindman and register to place a bid.
