Issued from January 1549 until October 1551 by London’s Royal Mint, this coin has a bust of the crowned king on one side with the letters “EDWARD’, VI. D. G’, AGL’, FRA. Z. HIB’, REX·” (“Edward the Sixth by the Grace of God King of England France and Ireland”). The Royal shield on the reverse reads the shield of faith shall protect him. This half-sovereign piece, valued at 10 shillings, is composed of .917 of gold and is 3.1 centimeters in diameter.
