Hans Böhler Painting and Tommi Parzinger Cabinets Featured in Abington Auction’s Summer Sale

Hans Böhler was an Expressionist painter from Austria. He was well-known for his bold-colored artworks featuring a unique mix of Impressionism and Austrian avant-garde. The upcoming sale, presented by Abington Auction Gallery, Inc., presents The Red Shawl by Hans Böhler. The heavy impasto oil painting portrays a woman wearing a red shawl against a plastered ochre background completed in the artist’s signature style. Also featured is a mixed media screen print and lithograph titled Shards I by Frank Stella. The limited-edition artwork features a rich texture and strong colors. Stella was impressed by the possibilities of screen printing techniques. The process allowed the artist to express his geometric approach.  The auction also highlights a pair of cabinets designed by Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern. The mid-century modern cabinets on a wooden base have two front doors. They also have round brass handles, which act as accent pieces. Parzinger’s high-style modernist furniture is notable for its lacquer work, crafty materials, and global design inspirations. Other auction highlights include Anthony Thieme’s marine landscapes featuring his preferred plein air painting style. His style allowed him to capture the changing sky and light in real time. The deformed ship reflections in the available coastal scene are a common feature in Thieme’s work. The auction also offers a Deux Poissons crystal sculpture by Marc Lalique, Patek Philippe wristwatches, and diamond and gemstone jewelry. Abington Auction’s Summer Sale Features Eyvind Earle’s Oil Painting

American painter and illustrator Eyvind Earle pursued art from a young age. In 1951, he made a major breakthrough when he collaborated with Walt Disney Studios. Of his paintings, the artist once said, “I go to slightly lighter colors until little by little, the forms begin to take shape and I start to see what is happening. Since I never plan in advance, I simply let myself be led by instinct, taste and intuition.” The upcoming Summer Sale, presented by Abington Auction Gallery, Inc., features an oil on board painting by Eyvind Earle. Produced in 1973, the work depicts a dark tree trunk in front of an old barn. Also among the leading lots is a screenprint by Andy Warhol. The piece is part of the Alexander the Great series, which was Warhol’s only series based on classical art. Beyond fine art, the auction also includes a selection of estate jewelry, sculpture, and watches. Browse the full catalog and register to bid on Bidsquare.

Harry Bertoia’s Kinetic Sculpture Available in Early Spring Auction

The American sculptor Harry Bertoia was a prolific metal worker known for timeless art pieces. The artist initially worked at the Evans Product Company and later designed furniture for Knoll. Around the 1950s, Bertoia decided to dedicate his time to art and began creating sculptures from wood and metal. The upcoming Abington Auction Gallery sale presents a kinetic sculpture titled Willow by Harry Bertoia. The available gathered steel wire sculpture draws inspiration from the weeping willow trees at Bertoia’s property.  Also showcased is Louise Nevelson’s Sky Gate XXXVI monochromatic wooden sculpture. Nevelson was an intuitive sculptor who adopted the techniques of collage to assemble her wooden works. Nevelson’s signature monochrome works transform everyday objects into mysterious compositions. The coats of black paint offer grandeur to these mundane wood castaways. The auction also highlights a Florida landscape by Albert Ernest ‘Beanie’ Backus. The available oil painting features the artist’s knowledge of flora and fauna and his talent for capturing light.  Haitian street life paintings by seminal Haitian artist Philome Obin will be on offer as well. Obin’s paintings often portray dynamic interactions between people of different social classes. These personalities dwell amid the vibrant houses, cathedrals, blue skies, and mighty green mountains of Obin’s paintings. The Early Spring sale will also present Lalique Bacchantes crystal vases and sculptures, Baccarat Massena glasses, Chinese famille rose porcelain, Louis Vuitton trunks, and a Purvis Young shoe shine box. Work of Impressionist Master Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin in Abington’s January Winter Auction

Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin was one of the founding members of Impressionism and among the least-known Impressionist masters. Coming from a modest background, Guillaumin worked a series of odd jobs to pay for his evening drawing lessons. In 1863, he attended the Académie Suisse, where he met his lifelong friends Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro. His early works are notable for their thick, fluid brushstrokes and muted palette. Later, under the influence of Vincent van Gogh, Guillaumin began to use brighter and more expressive colors. The upcoming Abington Auction Gallery event features an oil painting by Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin. Titled Bord de Riviere, the landscape painting shows a riverside with trees. The auction also highlights a painting by French artist René Rimbert, who invented “painting of silence.” On his visit to Germany, Rimbert befriended painter and poet Max Jacob. Talking about Rimbert’s work, Jacob once said: “Something of the calm of nature emanates from Rimbert’s landscape, it is as if he pledged to compete with the silence of matter.” The event also offers jewelry, watches, Asian arts, and furniture. Abington Auction’s Autumn Sale

From several major estates in South Florida comes an auction of broad categories, unexpected discoveries, and artwork from the masters. This autumn sale presented by Abington Auction Gallery covers the reaches of fine art, beginning with an abstract landscape by Roger Muhl. Les Pins recollects the style of the impressionists while contributing something decidedly modern to a traditional view.  Fine art plays a central role in this sale, covering the work of major artists such as Pablo Picasso. The cubist painter’s Visage a la Barbiche is an earthenware tile emblazoned with a goateed face—it is a recognizable example of Picasso’s signature style. This is not simply a sale of paintings, however, for the artistry highlighted crosses beyond the canvas into sculpture, furniture, jewelry, and décor. From a hanging plant sculpture made of bronze to a European silver wine coaster, a certain elegance defines this auction.  Over 225 lots are available, ranging in estimate from $200 to $12,000. A variety of collectors will appreciate the sale, whether in search of one particular work to complete a collection or simply one last item to complete a room. Modern art in all its whimsy remains the focus of this auction, supported by classic forms and vintage beauties. To view the complete catalog and register for online bidding, visit Bidsquare.
