RESULTS: Christie’s American Art Sales Total $24,132,875

New York – Christie’s American Art sale on November 20 realized $21,895,250, and the American Art Online Auction totaled $2,237,625. The top lot of the sale was Andrew Wyeth’s Oliver’s Cap from the Collection of Ron and Diane Disney Miller which sold for $2,415,000. Other top works include N.C. Wyeth’s painting of the infamous pirate Blackbeard titled “Oh, Morgan’s men are out for you; and Blackbeard—buccaneer!...”, which sold for $2,295,000; Georgia O’Keeffe's Pink Spotted Lillies from The James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection, which totaled $1,935,000; and Winslow Homer’s Sounding Reveille which achieved $1,815,000.
A grouping of the 19th century landscapes from the Ron and Disney Miller Collection performed strongly, bringing the Collection total to $13,017,670, including the Diebenkorn and Thiebaud sold during 20th Century Sales Week.
The American Art Online sale saw strong prices of Illustration Art including new world auction records for George Hughes’s Writing Thank You Notes, which sold for $200,000, and Kurt Ard’s Child at Photographer, which totaled $137,500, soaring past its estimate of $5,000-7,000.
