Art, Press & Illustrated Books: Blake, Cocteau & Rackham—Fall 2019 Fine Books & Manuscripts At Auction October 10 Upcoming Highlights
The heart of this Art, Press & Illustrated Books section includes an array of rare livres d’artiste, private press and finely printed books, important works of typography and design, rare artists’ magazines and journals. A broad selection of art books, picture books and illustrated classics include works by Arthur Rackham, Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso. From William Blake’s early nineteenth century masterpiece, The Book of Job, to late twentieth century collaborations such as the Arion Press edition of John Ashbery’s Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror, there are diverse examples spanning the centuries that celebrate the book as art.
A selection of works from the Sackner Archive headlines this section, with works by Tom Phillips, Timothy Ely, Jasper Johns, Emmett Williams, Lucas Samaras, Christopher Wool and Arne Wolf.
