Dane Fine Art Will Represent Renowned Figures, From Picasso To Sperling

Louis Icart - Motorcar

The Aurora Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art, hosted by Dane Fine Art, showcases original artworks by prominent creators such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Mr. Brainwash, and Pablo Picasso. Among them is a sketch by French artist Louis Icart. Born in 1888 in Toulouse, the artist started sketching at an early age. He traveled to Paris in 1907 to further his studies in painting, sketching, and printing. During this time, Icart was influenced by the works of Jean Antoine Watteau. His themes often incorporated the depiction of nude women and everyday life in 1920s Paris. Between the 1920s and 30s, Icart became one of the most influential figures in the Art Deco period. The available lot shows a brown dog and a woman riding an open-top motorcar.

The sale also showcases Josh Sperling’s Donut Lamp. Employing a minimalist painting style, Sperling works on geometric canvases. He combines the mediums of painting and sculpture to craft three-dimensional artworks. The offered lot is a hollow circular disk painted in a vibrant yellow hue. Casco Bay Auctions to Offer Avant-Garde Artworks of Jean Tinguely and Roy Lichtenstein

Jean Tinguely (1925 - 1991) Title Untitled Collage, 1989

Swiss painter and sculptor Jean Tinguely was known for his Métamatics kinetic sculptures, which were highly inspired by Dadaism. In paintings as well, Tinguely used the rebellious Dadaist techniques such as assemblage and collage, relying on improvisation rather than tradition. An abstract work by the artist is a key highlight of the upcoming sale at Casco Bay Auctions. It is an untitled collage made using ribbon, yarn, stickers, marker, and watercolor. Like most Dada art, it has gibberish text scattered all over. Another noteworthy lot is American artist Roy Lichtenstein’s celebrated work titled Wham!. It’s a diptych depicting a missile-shooting fighter plane in the left-hand panel. The missile is shown hitting a second plane that explodes in the right-hand panel. Its onomatopoeic title is central to the action-packed scene. Like most of Lichtenstein’s work, this too is conceived from popular comic book panels.

A Hove Mobler lounge chair designed by Norwegian craftsman and architect Hans Brattrud leads the furniture listings. Brattrud is renowned for this award-winning Scandia design, which blends laminated wood on a pliable wire frame. The design enabled convenient storage by allowing stacking of multiple chairs. Monet’s Canal Painting, Works by Pablo Picasso and René Magritte at Sotheby’s Modern Evening Auction

Pablo Picasso, Femme nue couchée

Claude Monet’s visit to Venice with his wife was initially intended to be a vacation from painting. Indeed, upon arrival, Monet reportedly declared Venice too beautiful to paint. But within a week, Monet was back at the canvas and set about on work that eventually produced nearly 40 oils of the city. One of the paintings from this well-known period of productivity is Monet’s Le Grand Canal et Santa Maria della Salute, which is up for bid in the Modern Evening Auction at Sotheby’s.

Over 60 works are under the hammer in the auction, featuring important pieces by well-known artists from the last 150 years. Examples from the sale include several works by Pablo Picasso, such as the painting Femme nue couchée and the figurative sculpture Femme debout; a pair of emerging Surrealist works by René Magritte; a piece from Willem De Kooning’s “Abstract Parkway Landscapes” titled Leaves in Weehawken; and one of the largest landscapes Paul Cézanne ever made (Clairière). Explore a Byzantine Art-Inspired Still Life by John Craxton at Hindman

Still Life with Three Sailors by John Craxton.

John Craxton was a British painter known for his works based on Byzantine art. His taste for good food, music, wine, and great company was often visible in his artworks. The upcoming Hindman auction highlights a still life by John Craxton. Still Life with Three Sailors depicts three men sitting around a table enjoying food and drink. The composition is suggestive of the Byzantine Holy Trinity symbol of three angels. The still life painting also reflects Craxton’s use of ancient Greek art lines and colors, as well as the influence of Cubism. Also featured in the auction is Pied du Mur au sol jonché by French artist Jean Dubuffet. The artist created his second assembled print series after moving to Vence. The countryside inspirations offered a fresh outlook to his works. The print depicts his fascination of the dry stone walls prominently seen around Vence.

An acrylic and wood sculpture titled Any One? Ten Is! by Karl Wirsum is another highlight. The three-dimensional figurine showcases how Wirsum fused geometric and organic shapes and forms. The sculpture imparts cartoon-like features to humans, resulting in an action figure appearance. The smooth edges, kinetic appearance, and popping colors are signature features of Wirsum’s art. The auction also offers photographs by Thomas Struth, sculptures by Jean Arp, and an oil painting by Eugene Leroy. Interested collectors can explore the entire catalog and register to bid online on Hindman.

Vintage Lladró Figurines and Goebel Hummel’s Rosy-Cheeked Children Come to Auction with Lion and Unicorn

Gondola Of Love 01001870 Ltd - Lladro Porcelain Figurine
