Vivid Painting by Beanie Backus and Bronze Sculptures by Burl Jones Lead SebastianCharles Auctions’ Upcoming Sale

American artist Albert Ernest Backus, also known as Beanie Backus, was well known for his vibrant Florida landscapes. His vivid compositions include illustrations of hibiscus and other tropical flowers, the spectacular Florida sunset, beach scenes, and the striking panoramic vistas of the Everglades. One such oil on board titled Sunrise by Backus is a key highlight of the upcoming two-day sale from SebastianCharles Auctions. A self-taught artist, Backus used a bright color palette and unique techniques in this work. His paintings have been exhibited extensively, and he is regarded as one of Florida's most influential artists. Two bronze artworks by Burl Jones depicting Native Americans also lead the listings. One is a large 1991 sculpture of a warrior holding a long spear and wearing a wolf pelt, a quiver full of arrows, and a bow. It is designed with fine detailing and colored accents. The revolving base is on top of a wooden pedestal. The other is a 1998 bust of a warrior on a marble base. Jones gave up a flourishing dentistry career to dedicate himself to bronze sculpture. André Harvey Bronze Sculpture and Thomas Hart Benton Lithograph Featured in Upcoming SebastianCharles Auction

American sculptor André Harvey was famous for creating small and large-scale realistic bronze sculptures. The artist initially worked as a journalist and an educator. In 1969, he met and worked with an abstract sculptor, Michael Anasse Valauris, in France. Upon returning to America, Harvey began working in fiberglass and slowly adapted to bronze, collages, gold, and granite. The upcoming sale, presented by SebastianCharles Auctions, will feature a bronze sculpture titled A Gathering of Emperors by André Harvey. It depicts a group of emperor penguins waddling along an icy perch. The sculpture is affixed to a wooden base. Also showcased is American artist Thomas Hart Benton’s lithograph titled Youth Music. Rendered in 1974, the artwork depicts young musicians and a joyful audience. Benton was fascinated by American vernacular music and often incorporated country ballads into his works. The upcoming sale also presents an Art Deco desk clock from Tiffany, George Molnar’s oil on canvas titled Newborn, a Chinese hand-carved wood dining table, and limited edition watches from Rolex and Omega as well.
