American artist Albert Ernest Backus, also known as Beanie Backus, was well known for his vibrant Florida landscapes. His vivid compositions include illustrations of hibiscus and other tropical flowers, the spectacular Florida sunset, beach scenes, and the striking panoramic vistas of the Everglades. One such oil on board titled Sunrise by Backus is a key highlight of the upcoming two-day sale from SebastianCharles Auctions. A self-taught artist, Backus used a bright color palette and unique techniques in this work. His paintings have been exhibited extensively, and he is regarded as one of Florida's most influential artists. Two bronze artworks by Burl Jones depicting Native Americans also lead the listings. One is a large 1991 sculpture of a warrior holding a long spear and wearing a wolf pelt, a quiver full of arrows, and a bow. It is designed with fine detailing and colored accents. The revolving base is on top of a wooden pedestal. The other is a 1998 bust of a warrior on a marble base. Jones gave up a flourishing dentistry career to dedicate himself to bronze sculpture.
