Open Salts From Tiffany, Daum, Steuben, and More to Sell at Nest Egg Auctions

The large lifetime collection of open salts, or salt cellars, built by Judy Noble-Lacasa will soon hit the market with Nest Egg Auctions. Starting at just 11 years old, Judy Noble-Lacasa assembled her collection over the course of 75 years. Nearly 400 lots from her collection will be available in the upcoming sale, including examples from Tiffany, Steuben, Daum, and other notable brands. Among the top lots is a silver commemorative open salt celebrating The Salters’ Company’s 500th anniversary. This elaborately decorated piece is hallmarked for London 1893 and remains in good condition. It features a coat of arms, crowned animals, and a matching spoon. Another top lot is a Lacy Period open salt shaped like a sleigh. Lasting from approximately 1830 to 1850, the Lacy Period of glassmaking featured the rise of more accurate glass molds, allowing increasingly elaborate designs. These molds sometimes left an unpleasant surface texture, which glassmakers covered in lace-like patterns. The offered Lacy Period open salt is colorless and features a scrolled rim.  A Daum Nancy enameled open salt bearing a vibrant violets pattern is another key lot in the upcoming sale. This late-19th or early-20th-century example includes a mottled opal ground with amber sides and base. The violet motif is slightly raised, adding texture and visual interest. Bidders can also consider a pair of Chinese cloisonné lidded salt cellars. Each rests on four Chinese dragons and is covered with colorful flowers edged in roped silver. Additional open salts made of cut glass, Tiffany Favrile glass, porcelain, and other materials can be found in the catalog. Civil War commemorative ribbons and medals. Image courtesy of Nest Egg Auctions. Civil War Commemorative Items A grouping of over 330 medals and ribbons commemorating the American Civil War will be available in the upcoming auction in a single lot. Most of the awards relate to Connecticut-based fighting units and organizations, and they are organized by regiment in protective sleeves. The collection comes to auction with an estimate of USD 4,000 to $6,000 (lot #9).  Lasting just over four years, from 1861 and 1865, the United States experienced its first and only civil war. The fierce and bloody conflict concerned the expansion and existence of slavery, dividing the country along North-South lines. Connecticut was a Union state at the time of the war, having outlawed slavery in 1848 and serving as a hub for prominent abolitionists. It produced artillery and firearms for the Union Army and Navy during the war. Connecticut also furnished 30 full infantry regiments, including groups that fought in the trans-Mississippi theater of the war in the “New England Brigade.” Parade prop plane signed by Tuskegee Airmen. Prop Plane Signed by Tuskegee Airmen Another key historical American memorabilia lot in the upcoming sale is a parade prop plane signed by 12 members of the Tuskegee Airmen. This mid-20th-century foam and plastic model P-51 Mustang Fighter Plane would have been attached to a metal rod and carried in a parade. It comes to auction with an estimate of $1,000 to $2,000 (lot #10). The North American P-51 Mustang was a single-seat fighter plane used during World War II and the Korean War.…

Tribal Artifacts, Estate Jewelry, Coins and Diamonds Lead Upcoming Nest Egg Auctions Sale

The latest Tribal, Jewelry, Art, Coins, and Asian sale from Nest Egg Auctions will offer over 230 items from Connecticut estates and private collections. Leading the catalogue is a 1908-P $5 Gold Indian Head Half Eagle coin. The coin was issued in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt as a replacement for the Liberty Head $5 gold coin that had been in circulation for decades. A Native American in a headdress is depicted on the obverse of the coin, alongside the inscription "LIBERTY" and the year of mintage below. An eagle appears on the coin's reverse, surrounded by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "FIVE DOLLARS." A first of its kind, the new Indian Head design was in recess— the design, lettering, and other elements are embedded into the coin's surface rather than raised up. The Indian Head design was in circulation until 1933, when Roosevelt ordered all gold coins to be melted into bars in order to alleviate the Great Depression.  Collectors can also consider a Tiffany Lemon Leaf leaded lamp shade. A creation by Louis Comfort Tiffany and Tiffany Studios, this lamp features a glass shade. In the Art Nouveau movement, Tiffany lamps are regarded as one of the most important elements. In addition, the auction will present LeCoultre Atmos clocks, a J E Stevens Black Americana mechanical bank, and a half-stock American percussion rifle. Drawing of Queen Elizabeth II by Andy Warhol, Fine Art by Tully Filmus Highlights Upcoming New Years Eve Auction

The New Years Eve Auction, hosted by Nest Egg Auctions, features a drawing of the late Queen Elizabeth II by American Pop artist Andy Warhol. Warhol excelled in the Pop Art movement, which brought the symbols from popular culture into the realm of fine art. The piece belongs to 1985’s Reigning Queens Collection, which includes 16 serigraphs by Warhol. The artist created four portraits of Queen Elizabeth II for this series. Warhol converted the Queen's 1966 postage stamp portrait by John Hedgecoe into his unique style, which depicts the monarch in profile. The Queen and her jewels are depicted in a simplistic manner by Warhol using strong red crayon lines on brown artist's paper. Squiggles are used to provide the shading for the hair, giving the two-dimensional image additional depth. The forthcoming auction will also feature Jewish Wedding by American Jewish painter Tully Filmus. This oil on canvas painting from the mid-20th century shows an Eastern European Jewish wedding ritual. In the painting, village ladies are dressed in vibrant dresses as they dance around the bride, who is seated in the middle and is covered. Additional lots of interest include Gorham sterling silver flatware and a Cartier Art Deco compact. Explore more items, online auctions, and bidding options on Bidsquare.
