    19th Century Painting by Edward Savage and Faience Jardinière by Delphin Massier Lead Locati LLC’s Upcoming Sale

    American artist Edward Savage is best known for his portrait of George Washington, completed in 1790. He also painted a large portrait group of the President’s family, including First Lady Martha Washington, two of her grandchildren, and their servant. An oil on canvas attributed to Savage is a key highlight of the upcoming sale by Locati LLC. It portrays an image of Captain James Scott, who was a British Royal Navy officer. Scott served in the Napoleonic Wars, the First Opium War, and the 1812 War. Another noteworthy oil work is attributed to Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem. The composition depicts the pastoral scenery of a sleeping boy and a herd of cows and goats. It has a 19th-century gilt gesso frame. The renowned Dutch Golden Age painter was known for his landscape imagery.  A large French faience urn form jardinière by Delphin Massier also leads the listing. This late 19th Century piece is designed with faux marble with floral patterns, high relief flowers and large butterfly handles. It is signed “Delphin Massier/ Vallauris (A.M)” on the underside.     Bronze Sculpture by Moissey Kogan & Hans J. Wegner Chairs Lead Locati LLC’s Upcoming Sale

    Locati LLC’s upcoming auction, held this December, presents a wide variety of sculptures, paintings, furniture, jewelry, and more. Leading the catalog is a bronze sculpture signed by Bessarabian Jewish medalist, sculptor, and graphic artist Moissey Kogan. The sculpture titled Madchen mit Huftschleier depicts a young woman posing with one hand on her shoulder and the other down towards her hips. Kogan (1879 - 1942) excelled in figurative art and modern art styles. He was famous for his depictions of abstract feminine figures. The offered work stands on a wooden plinth. Another notable lot in the catalog is a bronze plaque titled Têt de Femme à la Mèche Bleue by Joseph Czaky (1888 - 1971). Hungarian artist and sculptor Joseph Czaky was one of the most influential sculptors of early 20th-century Paris.  Paintings attributed to the likes of George Bauer Dunbar, Van Day Truex, and Anthony Thieme are available as well. A portion of the auction catalog is dedicated to prints. This includes a selection of rare prints related to the Philadelphia Waterworks. Among furniture, a pair of teak and caned chairs by Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner is notable. The chairs carry the manufacturer's logo and label that reads ‘Johannes Hansen, Copenhagen Denmark’.     Eclectic Mix of Fine and Decorative Art Featured in Upcoming Locati LLC Sale

    The upcoming auction from Locati LLC will offer a selection of fine and decorative art pieces. A key lot in the event is a painting by William Rickarby Miller titled Sabbath Day Point. It depicts a view of Lake George from the Sabbath Day Point. The 1876 painting is signed by W. R. Miller, while the stretcher on the reverse is signed, titled, and inscribed with “806 Broadway S.”  Another key lot is an Art Deco platinum and diamond bracelet weighing a total of 4.77 carats. The piece features a combination of diamonds in marquise and old mine cuts. In addition to jewelry, watches and furniture also comprise the catalog. A Rolex two-tone Datejust 36 is available. Manufactured in the 2000s, the wristwatch is crafted with a champagne dial, steel and gold case, and jubilee bracelet.     September 2020 Sale

    Born into a celebrated sculptor family, French artist Louis Auguste Moreau was best known for his bronze sculptures executed in the Art Nouveau style. Moreau’s works often depicted historical figures, children, women, and cherubs adorned with floral motifs and ornaments. A bronze sculpture from Moreau is highlighted in the upcoming sale, offered by Locati, LLC. The sculpture depicts a seated young girl with a doll in her lap. Her right hand is raised as if she is about to strike the doll. The Locati September Sale also highlights a botanical print by Basil Besler. A German botanist and apothecary, Besler is best known for his Hortus Eystettensis compilation. In 1613, the Bishop of Eichstätt in Bavaria commissioned Besler to compile a codex of the plants growing in his garden. The task took Besler 16 years to complete. The collection is considered one of the most extensive works of botanical literature. Beyond fine art, the event also offers 19th-century clocks, jewelry, tea caddies, and rugs.
