10 Spooky Lots Coming to Auction This Halloween

Halloween celebrates all things ghoulish, spooky, and odd, and auction houses are joining the fun. Auction Daily surveys the spookiest lots hitting the auction block this Halloween season. Andy Warhol, Little Electric Chair, 1964-65. Image from Larsen Art Auction. Larsen Art Auction - Andy Warhol Print For his Death and Disaster series, Andy Warhol placed horrific and tragic photos under candied Pop Art colors. In Little Electric Chair, Warhol utilized a press photo of the electric chair used to execute Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in the Sing Sing prison of New York. He applied a layer of cherry red to the photo, lending a bloody tone to the already ominous image. One print of Little Electric Chair made its way to American rocker Alice Cooper. His girlfriend at the time, Cindy Lang, purchased the print from Andy Warhol’s Factory as a gift for Cooper after he used a similar electric chair onstage. Larsen Art Auction will bring this silkscreen to auction with an estimate of USD 2,500,000 to $4,500,000. The 2021 Fall Larsen Art Auction starts on October 23rd, 2021 at 1:00 PM EDT. Larsen Art Auction to Offer Work by George Hitchcock, Birger Sandzén, and Others This Spring

Born in Rhode Island, 19th-century painter George Hitchcock gained notoriety a continent away, at the Salon in Paris, for his painting of a Dutch garden. Collectors will have an opportunity to own a piece by the internationally recognized artist in Larsen Art Auction's upcoming spring sale. Double White Tulips by George Hitchcock shows well-organized rows of white and red tulips framed by a windmill in the background.  Collectors can also consider Birger Sandzén's Autumn Harmony. Sandzén made the opposite trip of George Hitchcock, emigrating from Europe to America. He would eventually teach at Bethany College in Kansas and become an influential painter in the region. Autumn Harmony depicts the Smoky Hill River, which flows from eastern Colorado to Junction City, Kansas, where it joins the Kansas River. In the painting, trees present a wide spectrum of changing autumnal leaves, from bright green to fiery red.  Rounding out the top lots is Dan Ostermiller's A Friend Indeed, a bronze sculpture of two rabbits showing each other affection. This piece was one of only six produced in a limited edition in 1985. View each of the lots and register to bid on Bidsquare.
