New York—Christie’s Latin American Art two-session live auction achieves a total of $26,074,250 on Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday, November 21. The top lots of the Wednesday evening sale were by Frida Kahlo including Portrait of a Lady in White from The Collection of Dr. Helga Prignitz-Poda, which realized $5,836,500 and The Flower Basket from The Collection of James and Marilynn Alsdorf, which realized $3,135,000.
Strong results were achieved for select works by Fernando Botero across various media, with his oil on canvas Tablao Flamenco realizing $2,055,000. Additionally, world auction records were set for Jorge Jiménez Deredia, Remedios Varo, Yoan Capote, and Roberto Fabelo while Kahlo’s Portrait of a Lady in White achieved the second highest auction price for the artist. Records were also set during the November 21 day sale for artists Ricardo Cárdenas, Federico Martínez, and Arnaldo Coen.
