Circa 1930, this vintage automotive radiator cap features a finial based on Charles Sykes’ iconic Spirit of Ecstasy sculpture, making it suitable for Rolls-Royce Phantom or 20/25 hp models. Measuring 5.25″ x 3.25″ x 5″ (13.3 x 8.3 x 12.7 cm), the piece is in fair condition with scattered scratches, surface discoloration, and some abrasions. It boasts a notable provenance, having been originally purchased from Christie’s, London, and still retains the original auction sticker label on its base. This item is currently being offered as part of the SFO Museum Deaccessioning Project, an initiative dedicated to responsibly downsizing holdings that fall outside the museum’s core focus on commercial aviation history, with all proceeds directly funding future museum acquisitions.
