Sydney mint, KM4. An exceptional rarity in Mint State, the single highest certified example of this date by NGC, and the finest we have handled. The engraving for these early types was rather crude and so even perfectly struck examples exhibit softness to the high points, this specimen proving no exception; it is remarkably sharp for issue, however, and has very little evidence of contact. Bright lemon-gold in color, its surfaces abundantly lustrous and minimally toned; we offered an MS61 example in our January 2012 sale which realized $2,800 hammer, and as such we anticipate even stronger bidder attention for this superior specimen.
