Featured in this lot is this “Acoma,” Artist Proof serigraph by artist R.C. Gorman born in 1931 and died in 2005 and circa 1984. This artist proof features a wonderfully and professionally crafted serigraph construction that features a woman curled up in a peach color trade blanket with a very large Acoma pottery vessel set just in front of her and features traditional Acoma polychrome decoration with a bird on the front and geometric patterns decorating the the side walling of the pottery vessel. Rudolph Carl Gorman (July 26, 1931 – November 3, 2005) was a Native American artist of the Navajo Nation. Referred to as “the Picasso of American Indian artists” by The New York Times, his paintings are primarily of Native American women and characterized by fluid forms and vibrant colors, though he also worked in sculpture, ceramics, and stone lithography. He was also an avid lover of cuisine, authoring four cookbooks, (with accompanying drawings) called Nudes and Food. The condition of this artist proof serigraph is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this artist proof serigraph is 35 1/2″ x 44″ and the visible artwork measures 29 1/2″ x 38 1/8″.
