Pavel Novak’s process is called cold-working. He begins with a raw piece of glass which he then grinds on various flat wheels with different grades of silicone carbide. He then polishes the piece on a felt wheel with pumice and cerium oxide. Once the piece has been brought to a perfect polish, he colors, sand blasts, and/or laminates the glass to achieve his design.
