Paracas Bone Spatula / Drug Spoon w/ Spotted Jaguar

Pre-Columbian, southern Peru, Paracas, ca. 400 to 200 BCE. Very interesting bone (appears to be a human radius) implement used to stir and mix hallucinogenic drugs. Carved with long scoop, head of the bone in the form of a spotted jaguar, decorated with added shell eyes, and drilled spots. An additional pair of incised feathers adorns the area just below the feline. To the ancient Andeans, jaguars were creatures top be feared and yet revered. They are often represented in ancient Andean art sometimes in very menacing forms, others in forms that are almost amusing. Quite rare this nice! Size: 10.25″ L x 1.5″ W (26 cm x 3.8 cm)
