Mario, Acrylic on Canvas, National Palace Haiti, Signed:
This monumental acrylic on canvas painting is an outstanding depiction of the former National Palace in Haiti. Made in a stylized realism, Mario captured the full-length of the three-pavilion facade designed by architect Georges Baussan in a French Classical style. Mario used a palette of azure blue and blue-greens for the splendid cloudless sky, shades of white for the edifice, baby blue camaieu for the windows and the oculi, emerald, hunter, apple and Kelly green for the front lawn and edges, and a deep red color to delineate the steps. The Haitian flag float in front of the cupola on a pole that Mario painted in a shimmery silver. Structurally damaged during the 2010 earthquake, the Palace was demolished in 2017 to prepare for a new Haitian White House resulting in the historical significance of this painting .
