Important Patinated & Matte Gilt Bronze Green Marble Mantle Clock:

Important patinated and matte gilt bronze, and green marble mantle clock. Features a round white enamel dial with black Roman Numeral and Arabic Numeral numbering, completed with double blued steel Breguet hands. Dial signed: “Van Overklift De Dordrecht” Clock case attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815) featuring a figural scene depicting Robinson Crusoe under an improvised tent as a storm rages around him, as well as Crusoe building a vessel near a lemon tree. The case corners are further detailed with barrels issuing stylized cactuses, naturalistic terrain, and the young native “Friday” posed on one knee, meeting Robinson Crusoe, directly inspired by Daniel Defoe’s famous novel. Resting on a rectangular green marble base with canted corners, and finished with knob formed feet. Designed with Pendulum movement, includes key.
