Extremely rare and beautiful Art Nouveau ceramic platter with a faience broad rim. The center is well painted with an allegorical depiction of Cupid holding a helmet within a foliate border. Circa 1880s.
George Woolliscroft Rhead was a member of the famous Rhead family of pottery designers. He decorated one of the best plaques and tiles in Lambeth studio. He was also a talented writer and teacher eventually becoming head of the Putney and Norwood art schools. Royal Doulton backstamp, artist’s initials on the bottom.
