A rare and unusual Doulton Lambeth Silicon Ware Bracket Clock, designed by Eliza Simmance, a major Doulton artist, designer, and decorator, employed by Doulton from 1873-1928, assisted by Nellie Garbett, employed by Doulton from 1879-1910, Arthur Willcock, employed by Doulton from 1879-1882, Edith H. Woodington, employed by Doulton from 1877-1889, and Elizabeth A. Gadson, employed by Doulton from 1876-1882. Silicon Ware was produced from 1880 to 1912, although examples exist through 1930. It consists of a very hard high-fired stoneware body in light brown and blue, covered in a barely perceptible matt glaze known as ‘smear’. Silicon Ware is usually decorated with applied beads, rosettes and medallions. Stamped DOULTON LAMBETH, artist marks.
