David Burnham Smith Rare Singing Not Drowning Ceramic Sculpture:
Ceramic centerpiece designed and hand-crafted by British artist David Burnham Smith, dated 1999. This Unique One Off Dramatic Piece ‘Singing Not Drowning’ features a circular form with a vibrant blue crystalline glaze in the interior basin. Surrounding the rim are detailed sculptural elements in white porcelain, including four expressive human heads with closed eyes and open mouths, and multiple individually modeled hands in various gestures of prayer and offering. The heads and hands emerge organically from the rim, creating a dynamic interplay between the flat surface and three-dimensional forms. The glaze within the well transitions from a pale rim to a rich cobalt center, exhibiting fine crystal growth and textural variation. The underside is marked with David Burnham Smith’s monogram and the date “1999.”
