A pair of carved stone gate pier seated lions, looking in opposing directions, each fully-maned beast with one paw raised on a heraldic shield, Bavaria, early 19th c. Lions 36 ins. high, 17.5 ins.

Barbara says, “A true pair with opposing heads, tails and shields, these lions are excellent guardians at an entrance. They serve to make the transition onto a property, into a separate garden or at the bottom of a set of steps”.
