Paul Revere Jr. Silver Porringer Hallmarked “REVERE” (Kane Mark 7) With Ornate Handle Engraved “A*B”

c. 1770 Pre Revolutionary War, American Silver Porringer by Paul Revere Jr., Hallmarked “REVERE” (Kane Mark 7), Boston, Used, Choice Extremely Fine.
This Hand-Made Silver Porringer measures about 5″ in diameter and 7.75″ including the attached handle, about 2.25″ deep. Hallmarked “REVERE” on the inside bottom. The ornate keyhole handle engraved on the front with the initials “A*B”. Identified as the left side has two shallow minor dings apparently acquired during actual use, which only tend to enhance the originality and character of this fine piece of Paul Revere made Coin-Silver Porringer. Reportedly from Elizabeth Baily Dawes by decent through the Reverend Ebenezer Dawes (1755-1822) family in Scituate, Massachusetts.

This fine quality Porringer is Hallmarked with the full “REVERE” Punch on the interior of the bowl at center with a small shallow centering pellet mark below. (SEE: Patricia E. Kane’s, “Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers,” p. 848, and “Paul Revere Goldsmith” Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, p. 64. Mark 7 shown illustrated, identified as only used by Paul Revere, Jr., the American Revolutionary War Patriot). Weight about 7.54 troy oz. Length 7.75 inches, diameter of Bowl 5 inches. The engraved initials are sharply detailed and clearly in Paul Revere’s classic style. The central Hallmark punch is sharp and clear, showing actual light even wear from use and is perfect for display being prominently centered within the bowl, thus all of the important Paul Revere Jr. identifications appear on the outward and viewed side. Similar to Sotheby’s IMPORTANT AMERICANA Auction, January 22-23 2010, Lot 433, (Kane mark B), which brought $46, 875) our current example having a superior clearer central bowl Hallmark. Also, Sotheby’s January 21-22, 2011, IMPORTANT AMERICANA, Lot 169, (Kane mark 7), which sold for $80,500).
