Exceptional antique oil on canvas by acclaimed 19th century British painter Annie Feray Mutrie who exhibited regularly at the London Royal Academy starting in the 1850s and whose patrons included John Ruskin. Mutrie depicts a splendid bouquet of wild flowers set on a table where a branch of freshly-cut plums sits next to ripe peaches with a fly painted in Trompe-L’oeil to serve as a philosophical memento mori on the transience of life. Signature and date on lower left: A.F. M. Label on verso: Cooling Gallery established 1797, London LTD, 92 Bond Street, London W.I. Includes plaque on recto: A.F. Mutrie. Housed in a gilded plaster frame with ecru velour border. Artwork dimensions: 7.75″L x 11.50″H. Frame dimensions: 13.25″L x 17.25″H x 2.25″W.
