A RARE set of pewter Sporting pictorial buttons

Starting: $200

A RARE set of pewter Sporting pictorial buttons:

4 Large 19th century buttons with 4 different sporting scenes. This fun and whimsical set is pictured in the BBB by Hughes and Lester on page 659. You can read the entire background on that page. These cool FOLK ART style buttons are undoubtedly American in origin as the BBB says, as there are few deer no bears or raccoons in Britian. This set was made in a very limited quantity in the late 1900’s and from what we can determine there are only a few sets remaining in collections today. According to the BBB there were a few single examples made and several years ago at the Page Auction one of those single examples showed up and sold for over $600. This is a wonderful and very whimsical set to find so don’t pass this one up, you may never see another set in your lifetime for sale.
