Caribbean, Haiti, ca. 1970s CE. A pale blue silk banner covered on the front aside from a narrow border with brilliantly colored sequins. These are arranged to form a horned anthropomorphic figure who holds a head atop a cross in one hand and a sickle in the other. This figure is probably Bosou (Bossou), associated with lightning, fertility, and protection, and characterized by having horns. Vodou flags often honor Lwa (Loa), the ancestral spirits; although there are uncountable spirits, only certain important ones, like Bosou, are honored with flags. Size: 14.25″ W x 13.9″ H (36.2 cm x 35.3 cm)
