East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 15th century CE. A beautiful blue on white porcelain dish with floral motifs around the interior and exterior. The vessel rests on a ring base with a shallow basin surrounded by gently flared walls. The interior basin tondo features a bouquet of lotus flowers tied by a ribbon and surrounded by a flower and tendril pattern below a stylized border of vines just under the lip. The exterior of the dish features a Lingzhi and tendril pattern with the Xuande six-character mark. Under Emperor Xuande, who ruled 1425 to 1435 CE, China saw some of the most sophisticated production of blue and white porcelain, and this piece is no exception!
