Palm Beach Modern Auctions Presents Modern & Contemporary Art & Design
An engagement with minimalism and pop art is a defining characteristic of Richard Artschwager's sculptures, drawings, and paintings. The upcoming Modern & Contemporary Art & Design sale, offered by Palm Beach Modern Auctions, will feature Richard Artschwager's "Door" Sculpture. It is a noteworthy relief sculpture in Formica on wood with metal hardware. Leading the fine art listings is James Kerr’s unframed oil on canvas painting titled "Turtle Creek.". The artist’s impressionist paintings portray sunny moments in scenic locales that echo the rich colors of nature, utilizing loose, open brushstrokes. Another noteworthy oil on canvas is attributed to distinguished German/American painter Wolf Kahn. A second-generation New York School artist, Wolf Kahn is known for his fusion of realism and abstract expressionism in his paintings of forests and farmlands. Warhol’s Diamond Dust Shoes and Murakami’s Cherries Lead Bonhams’ Post-War & Contemporary Art Auction
Diamond Dust Shoes (Pink), Warhol’s 1980 synthetic polymer paint, silkscreen ink, and diamond dust on canvas piece, is a leading lot in Bonhams’ upcoming Post-War & Contemporary Art auction. Warhol started his career drawing shoes for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, for which he received the nickname “the Leonardo da Vinci of the shoe trade.” Warhol created his high-heeled art to depict the glamourized and consumerist American way of life, as opposed to his humble upbringing by Slovakian immigrant parents. Two red cherries are beaming with smiles in Takashi Murakami’s Cherries from circa 2005. It is a fiber-reinforced plastic, steel, acrylic, and urethane paint sculpture offered in the upcoming auction. Murakami is one of the most recognizable contemporary artists whose art was greatly influenced by Pop Art. Cherries is a representation of Murakami’s most Pop, playful, and kawaii side. James Turrell’s Ethereal Hologram 10 Leads the Way at Autumn Modern & Contemporary Fine Art Auction
Hologram #10, an electrified, mixed-media hologram and glass construction by James Turrell, is one of the leading lots in John Moran Auctioneers’ upcoming Autumn Modern & Contemporary Fine Art sale. Hologram #10 is an homage to abstract painting masters like Mark Rothko. A field of blue light emanates from backlit geometric shapes, evoking an expansive, ethereal ambiance reminiscent of Rothko’s works. Turrell’s version is sculptural. Each shape floats weightlessly, and the radiating light coming from them creates multi-dimensionality. Turrell executed the available work in 2008. Known as the founding mother of feminist art, Judy Chicago just wanted to be taken as seriously as her male counterparts when she began her career in the 1950s. Born Judith Sylvia Cohen in Chicago, the artist later changed her name to Judy Chicago and accepted the fact that her works were different from those of her male contemporaries. Her work addresses tough subjects such as the Holocaust, toxic masculinity, birth, extinction, and more. Chicago’s love of color and abstraction can be seen in the available Transformation, a 1973 sprayed acrylic and felt-tip pen piece. Find the listed items and more online auctions on Bidsquare.

Post-War & Contemporary Artworks Will Star in Bonhams’ Made in California Auction
American painter, sculptor, and printmaker Ellsworth Kelly is best known for his color field and hard-edge paintings, which emphasize vibrant color and spatial unity. One of his pieces, titled Dark Red-Violet Panel, is up for sale in this Post-War & Contemporary Art X Made in California event, hosted by Bonhams. The 1982 work is a representation of Kelly’s work with monochromatic paintings. His style was influenced by Monet after Kelly encountered the artist’s late work in 1952. Although Kelly is often linked to the movement of Minimalism, it is believed that he preceded the trend by a decade. Another highlight of the auction is a 1966 work by Wallace Berman. An American collage artist and experimental filmmaker, Berman was regarded as the father of the Californian assemblage movement. He was also closely associated with the Beat Generation of artists and writers. Titled Radio/Aether, the offered item is a series of collages created by a Verifax machine. Berman experimented with such technology and used photographs as raw material for creating his avant-garde art.
